Everyone should get their A1C checked at least once a year Here is why. o you think you are young and invincible, weir you are not! You can get diabetes at any age. When I was 20 years old I applied for a job at a very big tech company. Without thinking about it I had a regular sized chocolate bar. I was denied because my sugar was too high. So I went to a doctor, that did not know me to prevent anything showing up in medical records, He showed me a chart with two curves on it, of my sugar versus my insulin. The sugar rose rapidly and the insulin started later. Then it was about this time that the sugar was peeking out, the insulin started rising. they both dropped down from peaks in parallel. He said that now that I know about it, just be careful. Well I was young and invincible. I did not know what it was doing to my eyes. About age 50 My Wife got my sugar tested again. I was in deep trouble. But still did not know that my sugars was giving my eyes myopic degeneration. I was gradually losing my eyesight. I was no longer young and invincible. At about age 55 I told my Wife that my vision was now so bad it was not safe to drive any more. She had to drive me to work. And I am a car guy, It is one of my great joys in life. Two years later I had to have cataract surgery in both eyes. I now interchange 5 pairs of glasses all day long. My best vision for driving is 20/60! DO NOT BE YOUNG, INVINCIBLE AND Foolish!
